MPC - Go behind the scenes of Cold Storage and discover how MPC Paris helped bring the film’s terrifying world to life. Produced by STUDIOCANAL, Pariah and David Koepp, Cold Storage follows two employees working the night shift in a self-storage facility built on the site of an old U.S. military base.
MPC delivered the film’s full visual pipeline, from visual effects through image post-production. Over the course of an 18-month production, 431 artists across MPC studios worldwide created 541 VFX shots, ranging from invisible clean-ups to large-scale destruction, CG environments, complex creature work and detailed digital enhancement of practical SFX makeup. At the center of the film is the “Fungus”, conceived as a character in its own right. The MPC teams developed a unique visual identity for the organism through extensive research into organic forms, combining detailed textures, color work and animation to make the contamination feel both believable and unsettling at every scale, from microscopic detail to large-scale infestation sequences. This breakdown highlights some of the key visual effects work created by MPC artists, showcasing the collaboration between departments to craft environments, simulations and creatures that support the film’s tension and storytelling.
